Which knife best suits your needs?
Usually people think that choice of a knife is a question of personal taste. Of course, you can choose a knife by looks alone or by how it feels in your hand. But we would like to remind you that certain types of knives are more suited than others to certain types of use. So take your time deciding which ROSarms knife best fits your needs. And no matter which one you choose, you will have a knife which will last you a lifetime.
Design.
Knives' blades are made of the famous Zlatoust forged and hardened stainless steel 110x18MШД and 40x10C2M and Damascus. Hardness of this steel is >58 Rockwell. Handle of the knives are made of leather or wood: birch bark, birch nodule, walnut. For hilt and guard we are using brown Micarta. On the image below you can see the internal design of the handle.

1 - Hardened blade.
2 - Soft part of the tang.
3 - The threaded part of the tang.
4 - Security nut.
5 - End cap of the handle (Brown Micarta or Aluminum)
6 - Handle (wood, leather or birch bark)
7 - Guard (Brown Micarta or Aluminum)
The ancient way of processing of wooden surfaces is applied to qualitative processing of handles. Sanded and carefully polished handle is staining. The stain is a infusion of a cork of various kinds of trees on alchohol base. After staining the handle is drying, polishing and within one hour is maintaining in a boiling solution ( bee wax, varnish and other components). Then handle is finally polishing. As a result it turns out durable, qualitative and warm handle for a knife with amazing waterproof effect.
The application of 110x18MШД steel grade
When dealing with precision bearings employed in mission-critical systems where they have to operate without lubrication under high temperature conditions in corrosive mediums, one needs to use a metal of a special chemical composition and as free as possible of nonmetallic inclusions. The research of 1966 ascertained that 110x18M steel grade is the one to meet all requirements. To decrease the content of nonmetallic inclusions, vacuum-arc remelting (VAR) was suggested.
Metals undergoing double remelting (ESR + VAR) have half as many nonmetallic inclusions as compared with ESR plus a reduced gas component. The metal density is greather than when applying ESR alone. Thanks to that we have better plastic properties, improved polishabiliti, and good strength characteristics. Milled carbides help to grind the blade's edge and keep it constantly sharp.
All the above factors prolong the bearing service life.
Electroslag remelting process (ESR) is an arcless process of remelting a metal electrode in a flux bath. Electrofluxed metal is noted for its premium quality, lower impurity and gas content, improved micro- and macrostructure, lower anisotrophy (directional property), twice as high mechanical properties, two up to five times more reduced nonmetallic inclusion content (such as oxides, sulphides, globules), higher wear-resistance and contact resistance, plus minor improvment of other characteristics. Electrofluxed metal is used in the production of steels and alloys for defense industry and aircraft industry. Warranty assurance is twenty years.

Manufacturing process.
All our knives are hand made and all blades are forged. On folowing pictures you can see some manufacturing steps. Today, automated production and vast batches are commonplace. We prefer to focus on quality and craftsmanship in our production.

At our plant in Zlatoust, it takes up to 50 different manual processes to complete a knife. Below you can see our artists working on our highly decorated blades:

Below you can see our galvanic room and long blade masters (making swords, sabers, dirks and etc.)

And last step - we are making our own sheathes.
