- Are all of Rosarms knives made in Russia?
Yes. ROSarms factory is in Russia in Zlatoust city. All knives and all parts are made in Russia.
- What type of steel is Rosarms using?
Knives' blades are made of the famous Zlatoust forged and hardened stainless steel 110x18MШД and40x10C2M . You can check chemical components chart and details on design page. Hardness is58 Rc min. This steel is one the best stainless steels designed during Soviet Union time and always been used for military and aviation needs. Closest equivalent would be BG-42.
Also for our custom made knives we are using Damascus steel (Damask) or Wootz (Bulat) hand forged by Bulat Grad research center. - So it is not BG-42, just an equivalent, what is a difference between 110x18 and BG-42?
The correct name for that steel is Lescalloy ® BG42 ® VIM-VAR - a martensitic stainless high speed steel that combines the temper resistance and hot hardness characteristics of M-50 high speed steel with the corrosion resistance of AISI Type 440C stainless steel. (See Alloy Digest SS-280 of October,1972.) * LESCALLOY and BG42 are registered trademarks of Latrobe Steel Company. A special manufacturing process combined with a very specific alloy results in a clean steel with good resistance to wear and corrosion. This type of steel is used for domestic, international and military aerospace applications. When compared with other types of steel, BG42 demonstrates superiority in areas of hardness, hot hardness, retention of hardness, corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance and wear resistance.
110x18 is a analoge of BG42 which was created in Soviet Union in 1966 for exact same purpose!!! On our design page you can find detailed description of 110x18. As we see there is no differnce from the "knife" point of view. - What kind of materials are you using for knife handles?
We are using four natural materials - leather (pressed leather washers), birch bark (deep waxed pressed birch bark washers), birch nodule and walnut. Also for handle elements we are using Brown Micarta© and aircraft grade Aluminum.
- How far does tang go inside the handle?
Almos all of our knives have a hidden or rat-tall tang construction.The pommel is screwed on the end of a tang. But we do have some models with full-tang construction, fo example: Beaver, Ray or Russian Bayonet. Please see our knife design page for a diagram.
- Where and how can we buy Rosarms knives?
We sell our knives in USA and worldwide throug our dealers. Some of our dealers have exclusive models and special deals so please check them all.
- Are Rosarms knives handmade or factory made? Would you call them production or custom knives?
All ROSarms knives are 100% handmade, blades are machine forged from stainless steel rods. We do have a set of models, but we always can make a special custom knife for you. You can see some pictures from production proccess on our About us page. I would call our knives semi-custom. Blades can be made of Damascus steel , stainless steel or wootz (bulat).
